Institute Services for CSU Researchers
Pre Award Assistance
The Energy Institute provides full service pre-award administration for "complex" grants, these are grants that might involve multiple institutions (government, industry, academic), have multiple collaborators, or have substantial partner cost share. We will work with you to pull together collaborative groups to respond to funding opportunities, read and interpret Funding Opportunity Announcements, and work with you to create a submission timeline, map proposal requirements, facilitate non-technical pieces, advise on budget, and guide your proposal through the CSU and Sponsor submission process.
Concept Development & Rendering
Sometimes an idea needs a sketch or CAD rendering to help bring it to life. The Energy Institute can provide professional design services helping researchers with the creation concept sketches, 3D product renderings and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of a technology. Our award-winning industrial design team can work with you to develop your idea from lab concept through development of ideas through the collection of data, ethnography, competitive analysis and exploration. Our designers are trained to prepare clear and concise solutions and recommendations with the use of sketches, physical and CAD models as well as verbal descriptions, that embody design criteria set by the researcher and team. Our services extend to infographics helping researchers communicate their idea and support critical data in presentation – our job is to distill key points of a concept into clear visuals and flow that are easily understood by scientists and non-science audiences alike.

Research Test & Experiment Hardware
Well designed, fabricated, and instrumented research test bests can be critical for conducting high quality research. The Energy Institute has extensive capabilities to help researchers with fabrication, controls and data acquisition, data collection, etc. We maintain a machine shop, fabrication (welding, waterjet, sheet metal) shop, and have experience with data acquisition systems (such as LabView). Our technical staff are available post award to accelerate the development work of CSU researchers.

Equipment & Instrument Core Facility
Housed within the Powerhouse Energy Campus are dozens of engines, dynos, exhaust gas analyzers, generators, load banks, thermal testbeds, etc. All of the equipment and analytical instrumentation is available for CSU researchers to use in conducting their research programs.
